Hey there, and welcome back. I’m so glad you’re tuning in today, because we’re talking about something that’s really close to my heart — chiropractic care during pregnancy. If you’re expecting, or if someone you love is pregnant right now, this episode is for you. And honestly, even if pregnancy feels far off, stick around — because what we cover today might just change how you think about prenatal health altogether.

So here’s the thing. Pregnancy is one of the most incredible things the human body can do. But let’s be honest — it is also really hard on your body. And a lot of women just accept that pain and discomfort as part of the deal. Low back pain, hip aches, that deep sciatic burning sensation that shoots down the leg… they hear that and think, well, that’s just pregnancy. I’m here to tell you — it doesn’t have to be that way.

Now, let me break this down for you. When you’re pregnant, your body goes through some pretty dramatic changes — and fast. Your center of gravity shifts forward as your belly grows. Your pelvis tilts. Your lower back curves more than it normally would. And on top of all that, your body releases a hormone called relaxin, which loosens your ligaments to prepare for childbirth. That’s a good thing for delivery — but it also means your joints are less stable than usual. So when you combine all of that — the weight shift, the postural changes, the looser joints — it’s really no surprise that so many pregnant women end up dealing with pain and discomfort.

Here’s what’s interesting. Your pelvis plays a huge role in a healthy pregnancy. It houses the uterus, it supports the growing baby, and it’s the pathway your baby will travel during birth. When the pelvis is misaligned or not moving the way it should, that can create tension in the surrounding muscles and ligaments. Chiropractic care during pregnancy focuses a lot on the pelvis — making sure it’s balanced, mobile, and in the best possible position to support both mom and baby throughout the pregnancy.

Now, you might be wondering — is this actually safe? And that is a great question to ask. The answer is yes. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is considered safe and gentle. At our office, we use special techniques and adjusting tables designed specifically for pregnant women. You’re never lying flat on your stomach — we make sure you’re comfortable and supported the whole time. We also modify our approach as your pregnancy progresses, so every visit is tailored to exactly where you are in your journey.

So what can you do right now? A few simple things. First, pay attention to how you’re sleeping. Sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees can take a lot of pressure off your hips and low back. Second, try not to stand or sit in one position for too long. Movement is really your friend during pregnancy. And third — don’t ignore pain. I know it sounds obvious, but so many moms try to just push through it. Pain is your body’s way of telling you something needs attention. Listen to it.

If you’re pregnant and you’ve been dealing with back pain, hip pain, pelvic pressure, or even headaches — I’d really encourage you to come in and get evaluated. Even if you’re not in pain right now, getting your pelvis and spine checked during pregnancy is just smart preventive care. We see patients throughout all three trimesters, and many of them tell us those visits made a real difference in how they felt day to day.

At Powers Chiropractic here in Omaha, we absolutely love supporting moms through pregnancy. It is some of the most meaningful work we do. If you have questions, or you’re ready to schedule a visit, give us a call or reach out through our website. We’d love to hear from you.
