Whether you’re dealing with chronic heel pain or just starting to experience symptoms, this episode offers valuable insights for managing plantar fasciitis naturally.

Hey there, this is Doctor Powers from Powers Chiropractic here in Omaha, and today we’re talking about something that affects so many people… that sharp, stabbing heel pain called plantar fasciitis.

You know what I hear all the time? People come in and they say, “Doc, my heel kills me first thing in the morning. Those first few steps out of bed? Brutal.” And I totally get it. That pain can really impact your daily life… your walks, your workouts, even just getting around the house.

So let me break down what’s actually happening here. Your plantar fascia is this thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes. Think of it like a rubber band or a bowstring that helps support your arch. When that tissue gets irritated and inflamed, usually from repetitive stress or strain, you get that classic heel pain. And yeah, it’s often worse in the morning because that tissue tightens up while you sleep.

Now, here’s the thing most people don’t realize. Your heel pain might actually be coming from higher up. I see this constantly in practice. When your feet aren’t moving properly… when your ankles are stiff or your hips are out of alignment… it changes how you walk. And that puts extra stress on that plantar fascia with every single step you take. Day after day, thousands of steps, and that tissue just gets overworked.

So what can you do about it? Let me give you some practical steps that actually help.

First, ice that heel. Fill a water bottle, freeze it, and roll your foot over it for about ten to fifteen minutes. This helps reduce inflammation and it feels amazing.

Second, stretch your calves. Tight calf muscles pull on that plantar fascia. Stand facing a wall, put one foot back, keep that back heel down, and lean forward. Hold it for thirty seconds. Do this several times a day.

Third, and this is important… look at your shoes. Worn out shoes with no support? They’re not doing you any favors. You need good arch support and cushioning. And if you’re walking around barefoot on hard floors all day, try to avoid that for a while.

Now here’s where chiropractic care comes in. We look at your entire lower body mechanics. How’s your ankle moving? Is your pelvis balanced? Are you putting more weight on one side? When we adjust those joints and get everything moving properly, it takes pressure off that plantar fascia. We’re addressing the root cause, not just chasing the symptom.

I also teach patients specific exercises to strengthen the small muscles in their feet. A stronger foot is a more resilient foot.

Here’s my advice. If you’ve been dealing with heel pain for more than a couple weeks, or if it’s getting worse, don’t just push through it. Come get evaluated. The longer you wait, the longer recovery takes. Chronic plantar fasciitis can take months to heal if you let it go too long.

But the good news? With the right approach… proper adjustments, stretching, strengthening, and addressing those mechanical issues… most people see significant improvement. You don’t have to live with that morning heel pain.

So if this sounds like what you’re dealing with, give us a call here at Powers Chiropractic. We’ll take a good look at what’s going on and create a plan to get you back on your feet comfortably. We’re right here in Omaha and we’d love to help you out.

Thanks for listening, and take care of those feet.
